About us

We, Floor and Beatrijs, are currently in our last year of our studies at The University of the Arts Utrecht. This intriguing story spoke to us both immediately. In our films we often portrait someone who’s story is like a metaphor for a bigger story. In this film it would be the women who act completely in agreement with their beliefs. A belief that nature should be respected and restored so that future generations can keep enjoying its beauty and wonders.

Mijn makerschap kenmerkt zich door in te spelen op het sociale contact van en tussen mensen. Ik heb al meerdere films gemaakt waarin te zien is hoe bepalend je omgeving op jouw persoonlijke visie op de wereld is. Waar ik mij voorheen focuste op sociaal contact en saamhorigheid wil ik mij nu focussen op opvoeding en de kracht van de vrouw. Ik vind het prachtig dat The Black Mambas bewust een ander pad betreden dan voorgeschreven is. Met hun gebundelde kracht brengen zij verandering teweeg voor de positie van de vrouw en voor de kansen van de volgende generaties. Naast dat de maan op een symbolische wijze de structuur van de film bepaald, zal het beschermen van de neushoorn een metafoor zijn voor het leven in harmonie. Het gebruik van metaforen kenmerkt mijn makerschap. Het primaire doel van mijn films is dat de kijker kritisch naar zichzelf en de wereld om zich heen gaat kijken en waar nodig verandering in gang gaat zetten.

The fact that these women, despite the setbacks, keep on fighting for a better future for women in South Africa intrigues me. By taking on a job that was once exclusive to men, they have proved that women are capable of so much more than they are often restricted to. The women are not particularly often in the spotlights but make, with their activities, a big change. I am always intrigued by stories people have to tell. And I love to portray some of these stories in my films. Stories of people who might not always be in the spotlights but who’s stories are like a metaphor for something bigger. For a story worth sharing. In this film it would be the women who act completely in agreement with their belief. A belief that nature should be respected and restored so that future generations can keep enjoying it’s beauty and it’s wonders. With my documentaries I hope to be able to contribute to a world in which humans and nature can live more in harmony with each other.
